A Romantic

Hoelscher is a Romantic through and through - not a common characteristic among violinists of his generation. His tone is big and vibrant with a slightly silvery sound at the top, his temperament is assertive, almost daredevil-like in

the way he charges through passagework and his technique is majestic.

The slow movement was hauntingly, delicately stated by soloist and orchestra, and the finale had plenty of lightness and dash.
